Happy 50th Birthday...Tony's Mom :)

Well this is my first attempt at a loop bow and I have to say that is was a success! This cake took a long time to make. I started 2 weeks ahead making the flowers. Once they were completed, I moved over to the loops of the bows and then the Happy Birthday tag. I must say I was super worried that the concept was not going to work but it did.
My friend Tony asked if I could make him a Strawberry Shortcake with cream filling but I ended up making a Lemon Pound Cake with strawberries and lemon curd buttercream filling. Everyone was really happy with the cake which was good since this is the first time I made this combo of cake/filling.

Happy 2nd Birthday Amadeo

M...I...C........K....E...Y.... M...o..u..s..e.... Mickey Mouse...

This was a super fun cake to make and super yummy. My friend Susan asked me to make a banana cake for her son with the Mickey Mouse theme. The cake turned out great and was a great hit. I was really happy with the banana cake recipe I used. It was moist, soft and really special with cream cheese filling. yum yum.. It makes me want to eat cake...

Here is a close up of the Mickey Mouse that I made. This was the first time that I attempted to make a Mickey Mouse out of gum paste/fondant combo. It was interesting and a little challenging but I think it came out pretty good.

Happy 1st Birthday Christian

Cookie Monster......
My little Cookie Monster just turned 1, and guess who made his cake? Me, that is. This cake was fun and also frustrating. I wasn't too sure on the final design until I started decorating the cake, but I think it came out great. It took about 6 hours to put together, once again, way long that it should have taken but then again I was chasing after my little birthday boy and decorating the cake at the same time.

I am stoked that it turned out so well and also that the head didn't fall off while it was driven downtown to the party by my brother and Big Tony.
Below you can check out what happened to the cake after we hacked into it... yummy cake :) Poor Cookie Monster, he didn't have a chance. 36 hungry people against you.

Happy 1st Birthday Madison

Ladybug in a Garden.... well that is what I am calling this cake.
This was my first attempt at making a cake for someone other that my family. I can actually say that I am super happy it turned out really well.
The cake got rave reviews from the birthday girl and all her guest... which is the best :)

It took about 1 week to actually make everything. It would have taken less time, but then again I have a baby running around and very little me time to work on my cakes. The results were well worth it. It makes me a little sad that it was all gobbled up and there is nothing that remains but my pictures.
